“I am bloody sure there are plenty of Irish mussels available instead of flying them from New Zealand!”

No, this photo is not from Spain or Portugal but from an Irish supermarket seemingly supplied by an Irish fish processing company!

Sent to the Marine Times by a regular correspondent the text that accompanied the photo says; “With farmers complaining about the small percentage of beef from Brazil, what would they do if 80/90 percentage of meat in supermarkets was from not only outside Ireland or the EU but from countries that have questionable hygiene and labour practices?

"The Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice was quite forthcoming with Bord Bia and the Department of Agriculture in relation to traceability where Irish farmers names are traceable from butcher shop to farm and imported food products do not have such traceability.

“If Irish taxpayers are grant aiding Irish processors then surely to God BIM and Bord Bia should require them to sell and promote Irish products!

“I am bloody sure there are plenty of Irish mussels instead of flying them from New Zealand!”
